Friday Potpourri

As we flip our calenders tomorrow

December will be there

and some of us will smile ~ seeing week-ends full of

family and friends

gatherings and preparations

while others will panic

counting down ~ trying to figure out

how on earth they will everything get done

cards and wrapping

baking and decorating

entertaining and travelling

via

please sit back and remember

that the holidays are not about the stuff

it's about the feeling

it's about the love and joy on the kid's faces

of all the twinkling lights

and being surrounded by the ones you love

I have a sense of peace and calm

yes ~ my shopping is almost done

and I am on vacation as of 6:00 tonight

via

so I have a bit more time than I usually do

I hope to finish my decorating over the week-end

and next week I will do my baking 

and finish my shopping

and drop my cards and parcels in the mail

via

I feel I am ahead of the game

there will still be lots to do

but hopefully I will not stress out

but rather enjoy the calm and feeling

of having things done.

I am getting things checked off my lists

and that my friends ~ feels good.

Tickle Your Scentses

As I arrived home last night

I could smell a wood fire burning in the neighbourhood

and it made me smile

it reminded me of home

fires in the stove ~ one of Dad's small fires

which would turn the room tropical

it is smells like that which take you back

and nudges the memories forward

lemon is a sign of clean

pine is for Christmas

after a rain in the Spring

it smells like worms

yes it does!

of course I could go on and on and on

but I won't

I just had to share one of the things that made me smile.

Mom's procedure went well

and she is safe and sound at home

she is a trooper!

Having the Talk

Life has a way of keeping you on your toes

that's not a bad thing however

as without the twists and turns

the ups and downs

I think that life would be pretty boring

with our parents getting older

and some of them already gone

life also has a way of bringing us full circle

to those who have been with me for awhile

know that the first of the year started with a bang

when Mom was in the hospital for almost a month

after suffering a abdominal aortic aneurysm which ruptured

before this happened and even though Dad had been gone

for 11 years ~ I did not know Mom's wishes

I know which funeral home ~ where she wants to be buried

but we talked of nothing else

did she want extreme measures ~ stuff like that

not a pleasant conversation

especially since here we are kicking off the holidays

but she is heading into the hospital for a procedure this morning

so Saturday I went over for a visit with a purpose in mind

I am happy to say that the talk went well

and my brother was also there by chance

so that was a bonus

it's great to have those open lines of communications

with those that raised us

times have changed ~ we have all grown up now

haven't we!

Busy week-end was had here

supported Small Business Saturday with some shopping

made minestone soup on Sunday

along with some Whoopie pies

with peanut butter filling ~ yum!

Hey there ~ happy week-end!

we have had a week of frosty foggy mornings

and sunny afternoons

great for just about anything and it is so nice

to sit on a bench on my afternoon break

and read my book

this is something that is not a normal occurence for us

in the north-east ~ in November

hoping that all my US friends had a wonderful

 this week-end the Christmas countdown will commence

I will be pulling out the decorations

and choosing what I want to put out this year

 I have a good portion of my shopping done

and my baking list is done

so I am off to buy my ingredients so I can make the things

that I can throw in the freezer to take the pressure off

closer to Christmas

 next week I will start my cards so I can get those in the mail

and my wrap center is all set up

I feel good and hope I can keep this momentum going

I want to make a big soup on Sunday

so I can make these biscuits to go with it!

so I will be here ~ making lists

and planning and decorating....

Special Day

Today I celebrate

November 20th is a very special day indeed

as 3 people that I adore

are having a birthday today!

first up is my best girl ~ my cousin ~ Gina

I love her like a sister

we are the proverbial 2 peas in a pod

and I miss her so

this is the first year in a long time

that we have not been able to see each other

busy schedules and distance have kept us apart

so today I celebrate her ~ I love you to pieces 

next up in Gordie

he is Trevor's bestie

best man in our wedding

and one of the best people I have ever met

Gordie loves the cottage ~ and can't sit still

he always has a project on the go

and enjoys a good game of crib and a drink of rye

he is a forever friend and although we don't get together as often

as we should ~ I love getting the call that he is coming for a visit

last and certainly not least

is someone that is very special to me

although I have not yet met her in person

we have known each other about 12 years or so

long before the blogging days

she is one of those people that lift me up when I am feeling down

her smile is contagious

and I love her heart

so today I raise my glass and toast these 3 beautiful hearts

that mean so much to me

my sweet friend opened a new shop today

Tiggy & Grace

is named after Kim's great aunt and everything in the shop

means something to her

head on over and why not mark something off your list while you are there!

I have today off and so far I have slept in

and had a cup of coffee

It will be an afternoon of errands though

I need to organize my thoughts and figure out where to go first

the week-end will be a mixture of nesting

and cleaning and organizing

and hopefully a little relaxing
