Happy New Year

So tonight we go to dinner
with good friends

we will have some cocktails
and some laughs I am sure

we will reflect on what this year has been
the good and the bad

than we will toast each other
as the clock strikes twelve

we will be thankful for our health
and the wealth that friendship brings

knowing me I will shed a tear
as I get so emotional this time of year
I have always loved Christmas
and dreaded New Years
not sure why
sad maybe that another year has gone by
I just can't put my finger on it

~*~*~*~

Thank you for an exciting 2009
to new friendships
and old ones too

I will remember being here in September
the highlight of my year

and watch the ball drop
and wonder what it would be like
to be there for NYE!

Cheers to 2010!!

Day Off #5

It's snowing here today
and I am on day off #5

I am loving the time off
but I have gotten lazy

maybe it is all the food
or the chocolate
and sweets

I have to move today
do something constructive

regroup

I do have laundry in
that is a good thing
right??

I did make it out of the house yesterday
shopping
and picked up a couple of bargains

and I was thinking
and planning
making a mental list
of what I am going to do
in the new year

but before I start that list
I have things to do today...

I am cleaning out closets
filling bags for goodwill

putting away our presents

cleaning up the wrap and bows

making chowder for supper

hope you are having a great day!

Sunday Plans

As I glance at my clock
it seems almost silly to be talking about
Sunday plans
when the day is half over

I have been catching up on blogs
reading
laughing
commenting
and I even swiped a tear or two

when I entered into this bloggy world
I did not know how many
wonderful women
would be brought into my life

so here I sit
in my PJ's still
at almost 1:30 in the afternoon

don't judge...
you know you want to
be here too!

I had all intentions
of going out shopping today
but I think I will stay put

I may even wander upstairs
and get dressed

but today I want to be cozy
and comfy
and just relax

I did make brunch
blueberry pancakes

I think the dishes may still be
up in the sink

guess I have a date with them
before I do anything else....

Oh
and my big surprise gift
the one that I was giving
was a mastercard "priceless" moment
she squealed and bounced up and down
on the couch
I loved it....

On Thanksgiving Day
right before dinner
we were talking about our favorite movies
of all time

Eddie and the Cruisers
was on both my SIL and my list
"If you ever see the DVD ~ please pick me up a copy
and I will do the same for you"
she said to me

so....when I got home
I checked some sites
and found the 2 DVD set

it has the original and the 2nd one too
and I ordered us each a copy
I think I will watch it this afternoon

after my date with the dishes....

Celebrate the Season

Mom bought me this plate
a couple of years ago
and every time I look at it
I smile

it reminds me
to take the time
and do the things
that truly celebrate the season
and not think about
all the prep that goes into it

so...

add lots of marshmallows

get cuddly

sleep under the tree
this is my Cooper ~ he is not sleeping
but he loves it under the tree

act like a kid

never count calories

drop coins in the kettle

sing

I wish you all the good things
that the season has to offer.

It's the week-end before Christmas
and I am feeling good

yes
there is wrapping to be done

and a couple of last minute
things to bake

the candy dishes will be filled

but there will also be time to...

enjoy the tree

and ornaments abound

maybe go for a walk in the winter's snow

both Friday and Saturday night
we will be partaking in some
Christmas cheer

Friday night is a casual affair
with family and friends

lots of eggnog

maybe a cupcake or two

~*~*~*

Then on Saturday night
we can put on our dancing shoes

and our holiday best
and partake in maybe one of these...

and a little dinner too.

so get out and enjoy the lights

share in the love

the beauty of it all

and if you are lucky

you will find your favorite someone
under the mistletoe

I know that we are all crazy busy this time of the year
so I thank each and every one of you
that took the time to leave a note
or little comment.
I know I have read lots this week
but commented not as much as I would have liked
so thank you.

I hope your week-end is filled
with love and that you
make new memories
of this Christmas season.

Quote of the day

The only gift
is a portion of thyself.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

With all the shopping
and wrapping
and running around

I felt it only right
to make this the quote of the day

I try so hard to find something
that is just right
for a recipient

Last night
on hopefully my final trip
to the mall
yes the mall
and after a day from hell
at work
I started out great
and then went into a fog
about an hour in
I wandered
and wheeled my car
in between racks
through the aisles
and finished
yes finished
my shopping.....

Now to gather, sort & wrap
Maybe I will be able
to relax this week-end
and enjoy the tree
and watch

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Ornament Love

I have always loved ornaments
as I pull each one out of the box
it sparks a memory
of days gone by

We decorated our tree last night...

but on Friday night
I went over to Mom's
with an ulterior motive

I helped put up her tree
and then we decorated it together
as it has been many years
since I have done this with her...

when we opened the box
I was in vintage heaven

I knew that Mom had some old ornaments
but I did not remember how many

these are the ones that I was thinking of...

they are teeny tiny

Mom loves teardrops
and she has old ones

and new ones too.

~*~*~

I left with 2 boxes of keepsakes
and they mean so much to me
because not only did they belong to my parents
but my grandparents too
some from each side of the family...

I remember these ones
from way back
she let me take one of each

the little orange one
belonged to my grandmother
it is tiny
and is covered with satin threads

I scattered them around the dining room
on plates

and in pitchers

plus I added more to my big hurricane vase
so it went from looking like this...

to this...
much better
don't you think?

Have a wonderful week!
