Friday Potpourri

Friday ~ and exhale........

I am actually on day 3 of a 5 day stretch of time off

and it was welcomed and needed

I knocked off a couple of projects and prepped for others

working on my gallery wall ~ painted some frames

choosing photos

and then there is the coverlet for the bed ~ summer weight

so when we take the quilt off for the summer

there will be something pretty to replace it with

today is a little painting project ~ some touch ups that I have been putting off

and then some curling up on the couch as we have a freezing rain mix

going on right now so we are staying put

feels good to be back after a little time away

busy as mama was in the hospital for a little spell

she is home and fine now but it was a busy couple of weeks

I picked the girls up this week after school ~ we grabbed supper and 

took it over to her place

we all enjoyed our girls night and caught up on the latest news

some other things are heavy on my heart yet 

I feel if I write about it here it is like airing my dirty laundry

let's just say I do not like conflict and you can choose your friends

but you can't choose your family!

my mother in law is hosting Easter dinner tomorrow

always yummy ~ looking forward to it

Happy Easter ~ Happy Weekend

Family Ties

Small town ~ late 40's

a single woman gives birth to a baby girl

and gives her up for adoption

a couple of years later ~ the couple gets married

and has 3 boys and life goes on

forward wind to 2014

that young woman is now in a nursing home

in the early stages of alzheimers

the oldest son decides to search for his sister

(this is my mother in law and her oldest sister Elsie)

at the same time a city away the daughter has started the search for her mother

and they connect and meet

these are not step siblings ~ they share the same parents

this is the story of my husband's Aunt Elsie and her family 

and on Good Friday it was time for this lost sister

to meet some more of the family

we gathered at Trevor's cousins place

19 for dinner and 21 in total when all was said and done

this is the entire gang ~ a motley looking crew aren't we!

Diane connected with her new found cousins

she brought her husband and her children

and their families

it was a blessed day to say the least

we fell into easy conversation ~ lots of stories to be told

sharing history ~ learning about each other

and this was just scratching the surface

this is my hubby's family

his brother Scott and sil Phyllis ~ seated are Barb & Lee then Trev and I on the right

I cannot wait to gather again and learn more about our new found cousins

it was a very Good Friday

oh ~ and I was spoiled just a touch as well

a cupcake birthday cake came out for dessert

a glass of wine ~ a cupcake ~ ice cream and blueberry cheesecake

with a side of tea

quite the combination ~ yes please!

and roses from my love.

The rest of the weekend was low key but that is ok

it was a gorgeous day today where we spent most of the afternoon outside

and had our very first bbq of the season tonight

Sunshine & Fresh Air

It's Sunday night and I am getting ready to snuggle in on the couch

and watch The Good Wife

meals have been prepared

errands all run

chores are completed

and we also took some time to just kick back too

it was a gorgeous weekend

can I say finally ~ I think I can

the windows were open yesterday

the sun was shining

birds were singing ~ snow was melting

the house smelled like heaven

oh how I love Spring

the first week back to work after vacation is always a long one

it was busy and I made it through the other side

now I am gearing up for a short week

and it is an exciting week as my birthday is coming up

and on my birthday I turn into a 10 year old

and go all diva and princess like it's my day or something

I am sure it will not go by unnoticed 

because I won't let it ~ ha!

as you can see I am in Easter mode

as on Friday ~ Good Friday that is ~ and also my day

we are getting together with family ~ 22 of us

will gather around and celebrate family

and just maybe there will be a birthday cake there for me

because I am 10

the gathering isn't for my birthday though 

it is Easter dinner that because of people having to travel and such

is being done on Friday instead of Sunday

and that's ok

love getting together with this group

there is always new memories made and this time

will not be any different

Friday Potpourri

Ahhh ~ there is nothing better than a 4 day week

this afternoon we will head out to dinner

spending it surrounded by family

and good food

the drywall guy came yesterday

and we got our quote which I am happy to say

I was quite pleased with

so we have some prep work to do

then he will come back the end of next week

and start the work

guess I should get my butt in gear

and pick my wall colour

so excited!!

not much else planned for the weekend

other than prep work  for the room

if I can dig some of my supplies out

I may attempt to start one of my projects

time will tell

one thing I know for sure

I will recharge my batteries

and maybe eat a little bit of chocolate

but most of all I will remember

that this time off ~ which I will enjoy immensely

is not about the bunny....

Filled Up

Today I am full of gratitude

I am such a lucky girl

this week-end was not a kick back and relax kind of week-end

we had plans ~ big plans

and we hit it head on Friday morning

last winter I redid the master bedroom

new quilt ~ paint ~ headboard ~ curtains

it was completed except for flooring and a ceiling fan

we finally found flooring in August

but never got a chance to lay it until now

so Friday was prep day

empty the room

pull up the carpet

sneeze clean sneeze

holy crap ~ it was nasty

I pulled up all the staples and Trev worked on the old baseboards

then it was his turn.

Saturday we had a little surprise on our doorstep

the flowers in the first shot

from thebestneighborsever!

I truly do love them

I told Trev if we ever win the lottery and build our dream house

we will have to make sure we build them one next door!

This stuff did not go down as easy as the stuff we got for the hall

and other bedrooms

but it looks nice ~ love the darker shade and the wider plank style

of the boards

so now with it almost complete

I am on the search for a new fan

wish me luck!

so while he was sawing

I decided to do some sewing

I had a piece of an old quilt from the farm and a blanket

that I remember being snuggled up in as a child

a little bit of thread and a couple of cheap pillows

and voila ~ a cushion with loads of history

oh the stories it could tell

I actually made 2 but only had enough batting to fill one

so the other one will get stuffed as soon as I get to the store

after all ~ all the hard stuff is done!

we awoke on Christmas Easter morning to snow!

not real impressed but at least it will not hang around for long now

I made my favorite brunch of Eggs Benedict

we relaxed a bit

then packed up some wine and dessert

and headed to Trev's cousins for Easter dinner

there were 14 of us gathered round 2 tables

drinking wine ~ eating great food and laughing

I love to laugh!

So I am filled up with love, food and laughter

we had a great week-end
