Scraps of Memories

I have wanted a weekend with no plans

no expectations 

well this one was close ~ but there are plenty of weekends left in 

January and February for that!

since I packed up Christmas last weekend

but did not get around to anything else ~ I cleaned on Saturday

and put things back out where they belong

changing some things and leaving others

I have been having fun with my chalkboard

looking up different quotes and then trying to replicate them

and yes ~ I am doing it all freehand

probably did not need to point that out!

Before Christmas when I bought the mini lights to make these

and the ones I got originally had the green wire instead of white

I set them aside with all intentions of returning them

but they never got back to the store

meanwhile on Pinterest I found pictures/tutorials for 

ribbon or fabric garland

and my mind immediately went to a tote full of fabric

I have in the closet from days gone by when I used to make

fabric covered photo albums and address books

think late 80's / early 90's

 basically fabric I knew that I more than likely would never use again

but was holding onto it because that is how I roll!

so I spent the afternoon measuring and cutting

strip after strip ~ smiling at the memories some of these fabrics hold

and I knew I was on the right track

so I have started knotting them on the lights and I really like how everything is coming together

I will add in some ribbon as well then string them up

easy peasy!

Twinkle Twinkle

The last couple of weekends I have taken a break

from cooking and cleaning

and have spent my time in my renovated room

with no natural light ~ creating

finally taking some of those things I have pinned

and made them for myself

I have also been having some fun with my chalkboard

wow ~ there are so many cool quotes and fonts

plain inspiration everywhere you look

since our Thanksgiving was last month I chose this one

as I thought it was a bit early for me 

to be putting something Christmas related on it

a couple of weekends ago I made these sweater pillows

again ~ crappy lighting ~ sorry about that!

found on Pinterest ~ a couple of sweaters from goodwill

some batting and stuffing and I used embroidery floss instead of thread

I have 2 or 3 more sweaters to do and 

can't wait to see how they will look on the couch.

This past weekend I made these...

egg cartons + paint + mini lights = cute!

I love them and they were too easy to make

again ~ another Pinterest find

so my little corner of the world is basically complete

that sweater hanging over the chair was one my Grammy Brown made me

and I cannot part with it ~ so after the chair gets recovered with this fabric

the sweater will become another pillow!

I picked this up on my trip 

and it is awaiting a perfect little spot of wall

thought I would take some random shots of my space

as I will soon be hauling out the Christmas wrap, ribbon and bows

and this will become filled with everything Christmas

yes that is my old stereo with a turntable

because you never know when the girls are going to show up 

and we will drag out the 45's and have a dance party!

see randomness and whiskers abound

along with peanut butter pie ~ to die for delicious 

and currently crushing on these ~ please come to Canada soon!

August ~ So Far So Good

It is Sunday night and I just realized that I have not checked in

and it's been over a week

I took some time tonight to walk the yard

loving the flowers that are in bloom right now as they are some of my favourites

something that is not and is out in abundance right now are the mosquitoes

they are vicious!

just from walking around ~ I happened to look down and saw this

I count 7 and that is only what I could fit in the frame

they are terrible and it has only been the past week or so

thankfully our Off Lantern seems to work quite well

good thing I stocked up on some refills!

A week or so ago I had an extra long weekend

so Trev and I went to a touristy place here in town

Magnetic Hill

we just walked around all the little shops at Wharf Village

bought some fudge ~ fed the ducks

and went to Beaver Tails

 

he had never had one (what!) so I treated him and he had his with maple butter

drizzled with chocolate

I went with beaver dots ~ like a timbit or donut hole

served with ice cream and drizzled with caramel

it was a little piece of heaven

I laughed in one of the shops as they had a huge display of Anne of Green Gables merchandise

I would also like to point out that I do not live on Prince Edward Island

and I live about a 2 hour drive to Anne's famous gables

but I smiled and thought of Becky and Lou as I know how much they love

all things Anne.

last week I got together with a group of ladies

I used to go away with every summer

we would rent a cottage at the beach

and proceed to make memories

one of the girls is turning the big 50 tomorrow

so we went to her place ~ had a little pot luck dinner

and made some more memories ~ these were taken at her place

I have also been working on my little space in the basement

it is not complete yet but Trev hung my shelves last weekend

so I am fluffing and organizing and hanging pictures

I love how my little corner turned out!

once I get it all fluffed and puffed ~ I will do a complete reveal

Yesterday we were up early and packed in the car to go to 

Canada's largest outdoor flea market

the best neighbours ever came with us again this year

and after 5 1/2 hours we were tired and sunburnt

and ready to go home

it was a gorgeous day but that sun was hot

and stuff was expensive this year

anything worth getting was very pricey so I did not get much

but I did pick up this book for $5 ~ it was one of my favourites as a child

and I cannot wait to read it again as an adult

I am on vacation now til after labour day

so we have lots lined up to do which include

some cooking

hanging out on the deck enjoying my new fun lights that I got on sale

finishing this book and reading a couple more

enjoying my flowers ~ this phlox is "David" a favourite for sure

there are also day trips planned, lunches and shopping trips booked

a family get together, a concert and a seafood feast

I promise I will be back sooner than later

Not sure why I felt the need to write tonight

maybe because the sun is out

and it is warm ~ hot really ~ nice after a cold rainy weekend

I got home and started supper

then grabbed my camera ~ my actual camera

and walked the yard

I find that I am taking most of my pictures these day on my phone

so I needed some shutter action

some weight ~ some zoom

the gardens are loving the rain and then the heat

everything is up ~ blooming

colour everywhere and I love it

the last of the lilacs.... sigh

happy little faces

on peony watch ~ I cannot wait to come home one of these nights

to big pink blossoms

a rainy weekend should mean lots of indoor work done ~ right

yeah ~ no ~ not so much

I didn't even putter around in the craft room

I was just a slug ~ nap ~ eat ~ repeat

one thing I did get accomplished was I watched the dvd I got for my birthday

I then perused the internet to see if they were playing somewhere nearby this summer

as I want to see them again after watching this

double sigh!

For as much as I did not get done on Saturday

I was on fire on Sunday

errands

cooking 

baking

cleaning

crafting

a machine I tell you!

I finished my memory board

well almost ~ trying to figure out what I am going to use to finish it off

 and I am quite pleased with my little bouquet of button flowers

vintage buttons out of the tin from the farm

I love it and I think the black frame suits it

thoughts?? 

 

 I leave my rambling with a shot of my baskets this year

love me those million bells!
