On Sunday I stopped by my Aunt's place
2 of her kids were there
cleaning out the house
sifting through memories
throwing out some things
and holding tight to others
you see my Aunt Dot
went into a nursing home in January
as she cannot live on her own anymore
she has Aphasia
she is the oldest of 5
Dad's big sister
and she is the most like my Grandmother
sitting in the house
that holds many memories
of days gone by
it was clear to me
that although we may have had
issues in the past
there is nothing quite like
family
they are lifelines in this crazy ocean
we call life
so big hugs when I left
and I then headed to Mom's
just because
before I continued on with my day...

It's interesting how items can spark memories! I'm STILL sifting through my mothers things. Mostly taking them from one box and putting them into another, still unwilling (or undecided) as to whether I should keep these, or let them go.
The items may go (eventually), but the memories never will...
I always find that the hardest and saddest. Going through someone's life possessions and deciding what to keep and what to go. Family is hard to deal with sometimes. It sounds like you had a good visit though. Big hugs to you my friend!
Oh goodness...that's so hard. You are right. Difference or not there is nothing at all like family.
How bittersweet. Having just gone through my Dad's things and what was left of my Mom's, it's very hard to imagine someone else having to do the same. But it has to be done...and the treasures we keep, we hold close to our hearts.
XO,
Jane
That certainly is very hard. The memories good or bad always come back. Hold all memories close to you.

Oh sweet Lori, so much to think about at a time like this... bittersweet is definitely right.
Family is so important, no matter what we all go through...lots of hugs to you!
