the last day of school
the fair would arrive in our little city
set up in a parking lot
and stay for about 10 days
we would all head out
on "Bracelet Day"
it was the cheapest day to go
and we would stay for hours and hours
I remember one year
one of my besties ~ Tracey & I
rode the Zipper all night long
we would get off the ride
and head to the back of the line
again....
of course we had other favorites too
like the Tilt A Whirl, the Scrambler,
the Spider and the Hurricane
then there were the games
trying to win one of these
of course we would end up with a bevy of
"small" gifts
back scratcher anyone??
seeing a local fair now
brings back so many good memories
carefree days
full of sugar
and all things that are not so good for you
I still love a carousel
and being kissed at the top of the ferris wheel.
I remember getting stopped at top
and waiting in anticipation
if the one you were with
the "boy du jour"
would make his move...
now I do not have that to worry about
as I am guaranteed a kiss at the top
every time!

Awesome Pictures and memories Lori. I love fairs too but all those rides you mentioned make me ill. We have a fair in CT Labor Day weekend up in Goshen that we take the kids to every year. It is a real old fashioned country fair with animals, tractor pulls, rides and games. We all look forward to it every year since it is SO MUCH FUN.
Thanks for reminding me about fairs and what we have to look forward to.

Isn't it funny how we loved those wild rides as kids, and for me now, I'm terrified on them! My favorite game was the dime toss on the old dishes!
You always make me smile with great memories. Thank you Lori!
Our fair is the last week of summer break and the one week of summer I look forward to the most!!! I can't wait to go with the boys and my Gram and aunties - we have done it for the past 14 years and it is the best tradition~
Thanks for sharing your photos - they are wonderful.
much love,
xx
Oh good memories. I have sweet and salty memories of my own. Good times:) Eating and not worrying about a diet...priceless!
What lovely images! Looks like a wonderful place to spend the day!
Enjoy!
Cathy
I adore your blog!
Great clicks here. Love the cotton candy against the sky.
When I was child cotton candy would make me sick, so I couldn't have it, so it was always of course the thing I wanted most.
I am now craving caramel apples as well.
My favorite was the scambler too!
I missed the pretentious days of my childhood just looking at this post.
I have missed you my friend!
i had such great memories of the fair!
I haven't been to a fair in years! I forgot all about the zipper. I'm a big chicken. I never got kissed at the top of the ferris wheel. not once. but hey! My luck could certainly change this summer at Disneyland. in fact, I will take a pic of it just for you! :)
Thanks for reminding me of the sounds and the colors and the beauty. I haven't been to one in years myself. I need to go and just see and listen and absorb the memories.

I used to love any ride that would make you feel like you were going to hurl after. Now, I can't stand them. Love all these pics. So wonderful! You make the best posts!
What a blast from the past post! I used to LOVE to go to the county fair every August and go on all the rides and eat all the goodies they had to offer - yum!
The year that I was pregnant with my son (and I hadn't yet told anyone) I was going on the Artic Flyer ride (which I loved) and I had to tell my sis, as I was worried about going on the ride...it all turned out well and I had a healthy baby boy - wow that was 30 years ago! xxoo :)
Oh Lori,
This is so wonderful. I remember that last day of school and all the summer anticipation that came with it. Our fair didn't hit town til mid-July so we had a couple weeks to wait, but boy do your pictures bring back memories.
and p.s. - see what I mean about the weather being much better in Canada right now?? argh
-Carrie :) or maybe that should be :(. blah
Lori this post is fabulous, I adore all things about the carnival/fair, the rides, the popcorn, the candy apples, you nailed it all, even down to the corndogs (which I happen to LOVE! Seriously YUMM!) Hope you're having a great week, thanks for the eye candy!
BTW Come on over, I've got an award for you here!! xoxoxo
i love this! absolutely love it! the photos, the words.
