An Apple A Day

Sunday was a beautiful day
a perfect one to head to the orchard

although my Mom grew up in the Niagara region
where she could pick a peach or pear off the tree
and eat it ~ we had never been to the local orchard

the overflow parking was in a field
right beside rows and rows of dwarf trees

the apples were ginormous!

they had stacks of hay bales piles up for the kids to play on

along with apples and pears
they had fields and fields of grapevines

we spent a couple of hours walking around
and just enjoying the day

we of course came home with some apples
and made the best dessert ever to have with supper

Sam picked out a little pumpkin

and I brought home some gourds

and some other goodies

along with a bottle of pear wine made there

I have not cracked it yet ~ but will soon!

Hope you all had a wonderful week-end!

Hello Autumn

Hello Autumn

although I wanted to hold onto summer
the warm weather and my flip flops
for as long as I could

I am ready to embrace this season
and all that is has to offer

heading to the market on Saturday morning
for fresh veggies, meats and cheeses

picking out the perfect pumpkin

heading to the orchard to pick the perfect apple

gathering with friends at a corn boil

For man, autumn is a time of harvest
of gathering together

For nature, it is a time for sowing
of scattering abroad

I am ready ~ are you??

Welcome Autumn

Welcome Autumn

While I kick and scream through summer's humidity
I welcome the crispness of fall
I love the colors this time of year
and the goodness that comes from the earth

of course I mean it is harvest time

time for a good old fashioned corn boil

time for bringing together family and friends
and butter ~ ahhh lots of butter
and salt & pepper

and maybe a couple of cocktails too

the richness of the colors this time of year
Mother Nature sure knows how to flaunt her colors

the leaves have already started to change here
in the Northeast

we shall go for a walk down this path
and look around at the beauty
and breath in
and out

lastly I leave you with a place I recently fell in love with

I knew it would be beautiful this time of year

oh ~ and maybe another sunflower shot
they are at their peak right now!
