Rolling on the River

What a simply gorgeous week-end we had here
the weather was perfect

makes you want to stay outside all day
and all night week-end

then Sunday night comes along
and then Monday morning and we are back at it

Sunday we had a mission though
as we traveled to the city of Miramichi
to attend a 50th anniversary party
for our sister in law's parents

in their banquet room

it was quite the setting

the gardens were beautiful

the path leading down to the river

the Miramichi river is known all over to be
one of the best places to fish salmon

we hope to get back up this year as they also offer tubing
which is a blast and a great way to spend a hot Saturday afternoon!

I mentioned on Friday that I was going treasure hunting
Trevor's Aunt had to be put into a home
so his cousins are cleaning out the house and were having a yard sale.
I grabbed Trev's Mom and we went to help set up
and of course I nabbed a few odds and ends
that tickled my fancy.

a big old platter ~ a couple of old cookbooks and a vintage suitcase
plus a couple of cups & saucers and some vintage gadgets

there was so much stuff there that I could have brought home
but I was a good girl.

on the drive yesterday to the party I was on the lookout for lilacs
I found the perfect bush ~ close to the road
no houses around ~ so we stopped on the way home and I got them
the house smells divine right now

oh how I love thee

Hope you had a sunshiney week-end
and that you had a reason to smile

Have a great week!

The Leaves Are Falling

Yesterday morning the sun was shining
it was a crisp clear day

the perfect time to get my rear in gear
and get some shots
before all the leaves blew off the trees

I was both surprised and heartbroken
as I think I was a tad bit too late

don't get me wrong
there are still gorgeous colors out there to enjoy
but I think there was a bit more variety last year

I found not much red at all
a lot of yellow and some orange

we can blame our warmer than normal fall
temps for that ~ so I will take the warmer weather
please and thank you!

we are very fortunate to live so close to the city
but have the country a stone's throw away also
driving a few miles in either direction of our house
you come upon farms and fields

we are blessed

first I drove west
up river a bit

this is Upper Coverdale United Church
it is our sister church ~ the same minister does both services
and the summer services are held here one month
and at Trinity the other ~ it is a nice old country church
with plenty of character

looping around the Niagara Road
I then headed west

that's Lower Coverdale Baptist Church
in the distance...

had to stop for the cows
they take me back to my childhood

off in the distance is one of the bigger farms
in our area

a little inlet that shoots off from the river
and another farm in the distance

this is one of New Brunswick's many covered bridges
most are closed now but still standing

I have always wanted to head out one day and just drive
to all the different ones in the area

I just never seem to make the time ~ or take the time
someday....

Oh ~ and if you are wondering...

I did not make it to the market on Saturday

I did stay in my jammies til about noon

and
then did nothing all day except

~ a load of laundry
~ baked a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting
~ caught up on all my recorded shows
~ prepared an incredible baked ham dinner and scallop potatoes
~ caught up on my blog reading
~ ate carrot cake and drank tea

Hoping you all had a great week-end
and a fabulous Monday!

Week 17

There is so much going this week

we are on vacation

are in the midst of renos

and I have jumped head first into a
little pet project...more on that later!
I went and got weighed in this morning
and I am down

2.2lbs

Yeah for me!!

last week I stayed the same
and did not post...

I was a little nervous this week as my eating
habits have not exactly been stellar

but I have been getting lots of exercise
going out and enjoying the sun
gardening, organizing and
walking the dog...

whenever my girl and I
get out and about
I like to say that I am walking with
Miss Molly.

When we put our house on the market
last year
one of the things that tugged at my heartstrings
was not only moving away from our
wonderful neighbors
but not having the riverfront trail
basically at our feet

this is part of the
Trans Canada Trail system
which stretches across Canada

Riverview's portion is
3.75 miles
and is most beautiful in the
Spring and the Fall

Summer walking is enjoyable
if you can beat your way through the
mosquito's

seriously

so I tend to like it most in
April & May
before the creatures come out to hunt!!

this is looking across the river
to the neighboring city

you never know who you may run into
on your walk

we like to wander out on one of the
access roads

this is where they set off the fireworks
for Canada Day
as it is smack dab in the middle
of our tri-community area

there are water and marshlands on both sides
with the river straight ahead

lots of ducks

and babies too!

lots of ducklings with their Mama's
paddling around

I could have sat and watched them for hours

this one....

not so much!

so with the sun sinking lower in the sky
we turn around and head towards home

knowing that the trail
and the ducks
will still be there
tomorrow.
