Friday Potpourri

Thankful for Friday
and for a long weekend
that will be full of family, friends and food!

via

via

the leaves are slowly changing
seems later this year ~ but everything is about a month late
around these parts

a late spring into a summer that we thought would never arrive
then when the calendar said it was fall
it was still feeling like summer ~ warm days and evenings
windows still open

but things change quickly
we have had our first frost ~ cool foggy mornings
but oh so nice days

via

I have been trying to stop and pay attention
all week long
looking around at what I take for granted
it is the little things that mean so much
and make a difference in our lives

via

via

grateful for an evening filled with flowers,
friends and fun when we took a centerpiece class
I don't think Martha will see it and say "we need her on staff"
but there were lots of laughs

via

still panning and looking for inspiration for the living room
was hoping to paint this weekend but that is not going to happen
so wait I will and then get out looking for furniture
as I want to love it and not settle because I have some sort of deadline
because I don't

via

also in the midst of menu planning ~ list making
as I am hosting dinner on Sunday
I will do some of the work tomorrow to cut down on prep
it's so much easier to just throw things in the oven the day of
looking so forward to it!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends
and Happy Week-end to the rest!

Friday Potpourri ~ Thankful

via

Yes ~ back so soon ~ I have missed this

but with the hustle and bustle
and sunshine and life that summer offered
well you can see why I only stopped in to document a few things
then I was off again

via

truth be told ~ I always said that when my posts felt like work
then I would step away
and I do think that the step back has done me good

there are some things on my heart right now
that I eventually will lay out there
but not today ~ you see this is the start of our long weekend
as Thanksgiving is on Monday

via

via

it is going to be a busy weekend as we are off to the camp tomorrow
getting rid of some stuff
and taking some time to honour Trev's Dad,
as his birthday is today

then on Sunday we will have our feast
turkey ~ dressing and all the trimmings
we are hosting ~ planning on 6
but you never know ~ there may be more

via

Monday will be a day for me
get a few things done and a lot of relaxing

loving the warm days and cooler nights
I do not like the sun setting by 7 and after the time change
that will be sooner ~ nope ~ definitely not liking that

via

thank you for your comments
your emails
your friendship

and Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians

Thankful

Today is Thanksgiving Day here in Canada
and I don't think I have seen a nicer weekend....ever

there have been years where the sun has been shining but bitter cold

then years where it has been raining and down right miserable ~ hard to feel thankful
when the wind is howling and the rain is pelting off the windows
maybe thankful you can be inside on a day like that!

but this year was gorgeous ~ all 3 days
that my friends is almost unheard of

Saturday was spent getting things done
as Sunday we headed to the camp for turkey dinner and family time

My mother in law called me before hand and said
make sure you bring your camera ~ the big maple is beautiful

and she was beautiful ~ the leaves were so pretty
some of them yellow, orange and red in 1 big ole maple leaf
it was hard to even capture it in a photo

today we picked up my nieces Kat and Sam
and went to Mom's for a ham dinner
the girls got into their old room and sorted through old toys
donating some ~ throwing some things away ~ and making a keepsake box for others

they also took some things home to their little sister
things she can enjoy now that they are teens and Littlest Pet Shop is not
on their things to do list any more!

It was great to see the girls and I know that Mom enjoyed the time with them as well

I made home made carrot cake with cream cheese frosting to take today
and it was so good ~ moist and just yummy
you can find the recipe here

I know that I am fortunate to have friends and family so close
sitting around full tables with a bounty of food before us 2 nights in a row
and having other options if we did not spend the weekend with family

so thanksgiving to me is not just an additional day off
although that part is nice
it is being able to gather together those that mean the most to you
share a meal ~ some stories ~ and make new memories

Seasons Change

Last Sunday we drove down to the cape
to close up the cottage for the season

I love living in a place where there are 4 distinct seasons
and I can see the differences as each one arrives

with Spring brings hope ~ new life
things turning green

melting snow ~ warmer weather

then comes Summer ~ sunshine ~ vacation
beach time ~ dinner on the patio
longer days ~ beautiful blossoms everywhere and
new memories being made

with Autumn it is warm days and cooler nights
crunchy leaves and sweaters
and the colour show is breathtaking

skipping over Winter right now ~ not my favourite for sure
although I could not image a Christmas without snow...

so closing up the cottage makes me sad in one way

sad that summer is over but when I sat down to write in the guestbook
I smiled at all the entries ~ people that have walked through the door this year
good times with good friends

it's a long weekend for us
so as of 6 tonight ~ I have 3 days off
it is Thanksgiving here in Canada
so we will gather at the inlaws camp on Sunday and give thanks and eat turkey
then to Mom's on Monday for a ham dinner

yes ~ we are blessed.

Thanksgiving

Well hello there
miss me??

I have missed you ~ I have been a little disconnected
but I am back

via
today is Thanksgiving Day
here in Canada

we had our dinner yesterday
one of the perks of the holiday being on a Monday
that we can gather all week-end long!

we went to Trev's cousins
and there were 12 of us around the table
with good food ~ wine and conversation
it was a perfect day

via

today I made eggs benedict for brunch
and I am getting ready to head outside
to cut back the flowerbeds

it is finally time ~ I did some a couple of weeks back
but because our weather has been phenomenal
warm ~ feeling more like August than October warm
I waited...

hope your week-end was full of fun and laughter
and to all my friends north of the border

Happy Thanksgiving!
