This is August...

it is Tuesday morning after a long weekend
and I am sitting here going through the pictures I took this weekend
while we were at the cottage

we could not have ordered nicer weather

we had company with us this time around as thebestneighboursever
joined us on Saturday and Sunday
we had a blast ~ we really did

after supper Saturday night we walked the old road and then came
back up the beach ~ the dogs were in their happy zone
and we were looking for beach glass and heart shaped rocks

I love the old cottages on the shoreline ~ there are not many left
but the ones that are there make me smile

Saturday night we had a bonfire and roasted marshmallows
it was a great day

Sunday after brunch we all piled into the truck as I wanted to take them
down to Slack's Cove ~ it is such a beautiful spot
and should you not share your favourite places so others can enjoy them too?

this is Cathy & Colin

it was also our anniversary so Trev had bought me some roses
I could not bare to leave them home so I brought them with me
he still makes my heart happy

on Monday they were calling for a chance of thunder showers
all around us ~ I could not get enough of the clouds
big white puffy pieces of cotton all around us

I could hear thunder off in the distance a few times
but we never got any rain at all

hammock time was the plan for Monday
while I wandered around with my camera

so with coffee in hand ~ I am planning my day
extra days off do not come around that often ~ so I want to make sure
that I fit in as much as I can

vacation is not far away so I will keep my eye on that prize!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend
and to my friends in Canada ~ I hope you had a safe and happy
long weekend.

My Happy Place

Weekend before last we finally got down to the cottage
for an entire weekend

we could not have asked for nicer weather
sun shining and not too many bugs

my sidekick and I like to take a walk along the old road
Molly loves it as she does not need to be on her leash
as the traffic is now diverted ~ this is used for walking and the odd 4 wheeler
making its way through the countryside

our little cabin needs some work
now that the new deck is on and complete
it is time to scrape paint and give it a fresh coat
I am hoping to get it completed this year ~ weather permitting of course

I remember coming down here as a teenager
not appreciating the quiet and the beauty of it all
but on one of these moments back in the early 80's
I sat on the beach and wrote a poem
and titled it

Dorchester Cape

Looking across the water, I can see "The Rocks"
no one ever whispers, no one even talks
it is so calm and quiet, the water is so still
and I sit here wondering, if I could get my fill

of the pretty views, down here on the beach
the trees and the fog whispering, if I could only reach

reach up and pull the heavens, down right here with me
and I would be so happy, if they could only see

you see across the water on a clear day
you can see one of Canada's own little wonders of the world

this truly is one of my happy places.

Thank you for your comments and opinions on finding that balance
between blogging, social media and life
especially over the summer months

it is true that the computer has taken a back seat for me
during the nice weather ~ I tend to do more reading
and after working all day, spending as much time on the deck as possible

so if you think I have fallen off the radar ~ have faith
I am still here ~ reading every day
and commenting when I get the chance.

Hope you are enjoying your week!

Day 29 ~ Five Songs

Pick five songs or pieces of music that speak to you or bring back memories

You cannot imagine how hard it is for me to pick only 5 songs
as I have a memory for music
I can name the song to go with a certain event
and I am a true believer in the song remembers when

so with that being said so many songs spark a memory
so I have picked a few of my absolute favourites

I was lucky enough to finally see The Eagles
a few years back ~ they are my favourite band

Desperado was sort of my theme song for a lot of years
the entire Greatest Hits Vol 1 album is one that has
gone from vinyl to cassette to cd

Switchin to Glide from the Kings
takes me back to high school
and there is something about the line
:nothing matters but the weekend, from a Tuesday point of view"
still rings true today

Taking You Home by Don Henley
was our last dance at our wedding
the lyrics fit ~ we were so happy ~ still are for that matter
but it is a memory I will carry with me forever

What's Going on in Your World by George Strait
well any song by George really reminds me of my Dad
this was one of his favourite artists and he became one of mine as well
the same holds true with Charley Pride, Keith Whitley and many others
depending on my mood I can either sing it loud or cry like a baby
when it comes on now

I picked this last one as it makes me smile
and takes me back to going out every Saturday night
and just dancing ~ it still gets me on the dance floor ~ omg I still love it

please someone tell me they recognize this 80's flashback moment!

OK ~ can I just say I loved this one!
I may have to do an album list and I am loving Grooveshark!

Fields of Yellow

I love a field full of wildflowers
any kind ~ I am really not fussy...

it is one of the reasons I titled my blog the way I did

so when heading to the camp on Father's Day
we drove by some swoon worthy fields
of buttercups

I knew that I would have to come back ~ alone
with camera in hand

Friday was the day ~ overcast and warm
a light breeze and all the yellow
your heart can handle

my favorite shot of the day
nothing like sitting there and taking it all in

Happy Monday!

Make Me Smile

I had lots to smile about this week-end
and that makes me happy

going into Friday I said I needed
a day for cleaning
a day for errands
and a day for me

Saturday was cleaning day
I loaded up the cd player and danced around the main floor

the songs made me smile
brought back memories of times gone by
with friends I do not see as often as I would like anymore
considering as single girls ~ we were together every Saturday night

so one of the things on my to do list for March
book a dinner date with said girls.....

I treated myself with a bubble bath that night
and finished another book
then Trev & I curled up on the couch
and caught up on some recorded tv

I know ~ don't be jealous ~ it was a rockin Saturday night!

Sunday was errands day
I went over to Mom's with some groceries
and made her some meals as the poor thing has been eating
out of the microwave most days

she will have to heat these up too
but at least they will be home made

I can see her getting stronger every day
her voice is stronger ~ sounding more like herself
big smiles for that one!

  today is my "me" day
I may stay in my jammies all day long

I may do some organizing

I may sit on the couch with my laptop and watch tv all day

I may decide to get dressed and go out

I should probably make that decision soon
but if I don't ~ that's ok
because today will be guilt free

Hope you do something today to make you smile
I am going to pour another cup of coffee!
