Sunrise in Varadero

Our last full day at the resort
I awoke before the sun

not wanting to wake Trev
I grabbed our towels to reserve our chairs
by the pool

getting back to the room
he had woken up too
so I picked up my camera
and we headed down to the beach

I will be truthful with you
I have not seen the dawn very often
maybe in my late teens ~ early 20's
when I was just getting home after a night out!

it was peaceful
the beach was deserted
except for a couple of runners
and people walking

we took the obligatory beach shot
for our photo album

then just sat and took it all in

I am so glad that we were able to do this
it was romantic ~ peaceful
and time that I will cherish forever

it was the perfect way to conclude
our vacation.

Happy Wednesday!

Day Trip ~ Havana ~ Part 2

After a very full morning of stops
off and on the bus
we stopped for lunch and readied ourselves
for the afternoon
which was a walking tour of
Old Havana

Hats on and lubed up with sunscreen
we set off

this is the restaurant where we had lunch
it was gorgeous and the food was good

they have been refurbishing most of the buildings in this area
bringing them back to their heyday

again ~ the architecture was beautiful

the stonework and ironwork
is all one of a kind

our guide told us that they apprentice in one or the other
and can take years to master

this awning was all stained glass

next was on to the La Floridita Bar
which was one of Hemmingway's favorite haunts

it had an old working elevator
which was very cool

one of the street performers

again ~ one of the beautiful old buildings
with the columns

I wish that this had of turned out better
because it was amazing
it was a mural on the wall depicting the past

but as you can see ~ the sun was not kind to me
or maybe it was my photographic ability!

one of the last stops on the walking tour
was the cathedral

it was a blessed day

this cutie was our tour guide
Danny ~ he was a sweetheart!

I am still making my rounds ~ catching up on posts
and commenting when I can

Hope everyone has a wonderful week-end
and I wish all you Mom's out there
a Happy Mother's Day.

Day Trip ~ Havana ~ Part 1

Before we left for vacation
we researched the different excursions that were offered
through the resort

Trevor really wanted to go to the cigar factory
so we booked a day trip into Havana

since we had spent the day before by the pool
and were both nursing sunburns
we thought that a 2 hour bus ride out of the sun
would be the ticket!

We were to be in the lobby at 7:15am
in order to catch the bus
so the night before we called for a wake up call
so we would have time to get ready and have some breakfast
before the appointed time

well ~ we did not get the wake-up call
oops
we awoke at 6:45 which gave us time
to jump in and out of the shower
dress and get out the door
in record time

no coffee ~ no breakfast
not a good start at all!

we made it though and it turned out to be a great day
can I just say thank goodness I had some
granola bars and rice krispie treats in my tote
which we ended up eating on the bus trip.

our first stop was at the cigar factory
which they did not allow cameras

it was really, really cool to see the different stages
that goes into making them

we then went to the rum factory

this was the railing ~ it was really cool although
one person thought it was creepy

after the tour we went into the little gift shop
which had rum ~ of course
cigars & coffee

Trev bought some cigars ~ I bought coffee
and some rum ~ for the price we could not just leave it there
as a quart bottle cost about $4.00 CAD

back on the bus that took us to
Plaza de la Revolcion
(Revolution Square)
which is where many political rallies take place

these are little taxis they call coco taxis
they were both in Havana and Varadero

horse drawn carriage rides were also available

we then headed downtown to the capital building
Trevor was gaga all week with all the old cars

El Capitolio
it was designed after the Capital building in Washington, DC

it is now the home of the Cuban Academy of Sciences

this is the opera house and it was gorgeous

the grounds around the Capital building

I was so taken with the architecture
it was beautiful

this was the videographer that traveled
with our tour.

We then went to lunch to refuel
as the afternoon was a walking tour
through Old Havana

and that will be part 2!

Happy Wednesday.

~Hola~

Well hello there

we are back
I wish I could say
that we are well rested
and rejuvenated
but I am tired...

a good tired though
is there such a thing??

the weather was gorgeous
hot ~ hot ~ hot

we spent some days on the beach

and other days by the pool

it was rough ~ really...

I drank lots of these
and these

just swim up and have a seat
it was the life

the resort was beautiful

Trev & I after dinner

our last full day there
we got up early and went to the beach
to watch the sunrise

the only downside to the entire week
other than the sunburn
is I have heat rash on both legs

and the day we left
a huge fever blister on my face
nice ~ just what I wanted

so I am home today
doing laundry, catching up on some blog reading
and licking my wounds
along with applying lotions and potions
to my sun ravaged body!

Setting the PVR to record the wedding so I can watch
it in the morning ~ so excited for that!

I will be around in the next couple of days for a visit
don't give up on me!
