Walls of White

So if I say that winter is not my favourite season
I don't think anyone that has been here for any amount of time
would be surprised

I also know that I choose to live here
it can be cold and snowy
and downright miserable ~ but it is home
it is where my family is
my roots are here ~ and roots are important

but if you hear sobbing coming from somewhere
in the northeast ~ it is just me
and it more than likely means that we got more snow

I took this one January 29th and captioned it on IG ~ so much snow
little did I know.... silly girl

because a short 2 days later we got dumped on again
as this one was taken February 1st
same viewpoint ~ can you see it sticking out there on the left
yeah ~ that's a whole lotta snow

the following week we got blasted again bringing our grand total
of snow in those 3 storms to 145 cm which is about 57 inches to my
friends to the south of me ~ approximately 5 ft of snow
add wind and drifting and bam ~ closed down the area

so when we got hit again on Sunday
we waved the white flag ~ we surrender ~ we give up
we really do not need nor want any more because guess what
we are running out of places to put it!

We got 54 cm more ~ a mere 21 inches
notice the plant sticking out of the picture ~ in the bottom right corner
then bring your eye up to the height of the bank

it can be pretty I know ~ I love the way it glistens ~ like crystals
and I captured this one last week with my phone
love ~ love ~ love

when the sun comes out

and the frost is heavy ~ you can capture beauty

the beauty of nature is hard to beat

Thanks God!

Polar Vortex

This will not be a post where I will whine about the cold and the snow
and the freezing rain
but I will talk about it just a smidge...

last Wednesday we had a blizzard ~ the visibility was zero
nada nothing
since it was doing nothing in the morning
I went into work
they came around ~ around the noon hour saying that whenever you feel like
you want to leave, just let us know and go home

well it came hard and fast right around 1 ~ I stayed a little but longer
and then hit the road
we left at a good time because it just got progressively worse as the day went on
by the time it was all said and done we had received 41 cm of snow
and in some places here in the Maritimes the winds were equal to
a category 2 hurricane ~ that my friends is windy!

this picture is taken out my front window looking towards my neighbours house
yup ~ nasty stuff

so we all got over that ~ it was back to work on Thursday
had mild temps and rain on Friday so any effort to get out to get some "snow pics"
were gone as the rain beat it down by half or so
not that I am complaining about that ~ really!

so Saturday it is gorgeous ~ temps above zero ~ the sun in shining
feels like Spring really is coming
I bought a bouquet of tulips and daffodils from the Cancer Society
then Sunday we get this

stop shaking the snow globe!!

do you have the Timpehop app on your phone?  If you take pictures and post
to instagram, facebook or twitter ~ it will pull your history for that same day
how ever many years you have been using that social media site

last year this time my crocuses were up and there was hardly any snow
I know this because this morning as freezing rain was pelting on my window
it showed me these pictures from a year ago today

so today we have had freezing rain which turned to snow this evening
mass power outages all over the place

so that's enough of the northeast weather!

Good news is I am on vacation this week
and although I wish I could have jetted off to somewhere warm
I chose to stay home and get some things done around the house
and spend some time to just relax

I have a stack of People magazines I have been binge reading

most of the house is cleaned

dinner plans tomorrow night with my cousin with shopping

an afternoon planned with my Mama on Thursday

and Friday I am getting together with my girlies ~ it's home made pizza
and the Hunger Games kinda night

I love the idea of just doing things at my own pace this week
have been spending some time in the kitchen
and taking time in the afternoon to have a latte and a piece of cinnamon bread

Happy Monday!

The Calm After the Storm

There was actually a calm before the storm too
as Friday it was gorgeous

the sun was shining
I felt like a cat wanting to seek out the beam
and take it all in
they were predicting a good ole fashion
n'oreaster for Saturday afternoon
and overnight hours

so it was up early
off to the hospital and running errands
before it all started
then we hunkered down on couch
and listened to the wind blow

today we woke up to 30 cm of
new fallen snow

there was blue sky ~ but cold
brrrr cold

I popped outside long enough to take a few shots
then it was back in

Trev worked at clearing everything outside
and I puttered around in

first up was banana bread

then a big pot of chili with fresh biscuits

then it was on to a recipe I found here

in hearts of course for Valentines
and they are yummy yummy!

I sprinkled sugar on some
and then pink and red sugar on others

I will not tell you how many of those little ones I ate
fresh from the oven ~ but it was sinful!

Mom is doing better ~ still in ICU
but that is due to her ongoing issues with her lungs
they are only putting her on the vent at night
and keeping her off it longer and longer
she is feeling better I can tell
and has started using the dry erase board I bought
so we have communication!

one more snow shot!
I am currently under my blanket on the couch
watching the Grammy Awards

cheering for Adele and still in disbelief about Whitney
hope you had a great week-end.

Happy Halloween!

Boo!

did I scare you...

I know ~ not likely

what a busy week-end!

it started out with having no plans and then at noon on Saturday
took off at a sprint and did not stop

I ended up outside cleaning up the flowerbeds out back
then ran errands, got groceries
made a big batch of spaghetti sauce, stuffed manicotti
then made dinner!

we were invited to a party and I was pooped out
I felt like a zombie so the costume would have been easy
it's too bad too because I really wanted to go
just to see all the decorations as I was over on Thursday night
and it looked incredible then ~ and they were not even finished
oh well ~ I hope they got lots and lots of pictures

Sunday it was miserable ~ rainy and cold
but we bundled up anyway and headed to the cottage
to close it up

it was cold ~ see your breath inside cold

this is a picture from inside looking out
it was pouring ~ I called it slushing as it was a rain snow mix

we lit the stove and got down to business
by this time the slush had turned to full on snow

I went back outside and braved our first snowfall of the year
and you know what
I really don't like snow

everything was covered and to quote Trev
it was slippery as snot
nice image ~ right!

by the time we left it was pretty much a winter wonderland.

As we were driving home it turned to slush
then rain again but the ground is covered
I am hoping this will all melt off as it is suppose to warm up
a bit ~ hope so as I hate to see the little ones out in this
tonight.

More news ~ good news actually
Donny is home
skinny but home
his weight dropped to 107 lbs
this is a man ~ 6 ft tall
has always been slim but not skin hanging on bones slim
he has gained about 7 lbs so far
so he is on the road to recovery
and a happy boy
and that makes me a happy girl

thank you again for all the prayers
xoxox

So today I am dressed in my finery
I am headed south ~ if only in my mind
as I will have on my hula skirt
and flip flops
and a lei ~ and a hat
and funky glasses

I will get a picture ~ I promise!

Hope you have a Safe and Happy Halloween!

Friday Potpourri

Well hello again
it's Friday and that means
it is time for some pretty

like a cherry on top of a sundae
after a long week

Cosmos have me wishing for summer and warmer weather

love this one

snowdrops are the first true sign of spring
along with crocus
mind you ~ I will not see my flower bed out front
until at least mid April
if I am lucky

still in my knit mode
have to stay cozy

Trish posted this one last week
and I love it!

nesting makes me think of
comfort food
and what is more comforting than
a home made pie

so I am off today
and trying to figure out
do I take the day for me
or
do I run errands ~ do some shopping
prep the bedroom for painting

decisions ~ decisions

Lou posted this one
and it spoke to me

this one reminds me of my childhood
of days spent in the woods with my Dad
I love it.

Wishing you all a wonderful week-end
xo
