Friday Potpourri

 

Happy Friday

and welcome summer!!

I am back from my stateside shopping extravaganza

and we had a ball.

You know I am so fortunate ~ I have so many friends

and good friends ~ ones that you can call

no matter what

my travel partner was one of these girls

we sang all the way home

we did not get much treasure hunting done

just malls ~ stores we don't have here

I bought a huge salad bowl on Tuesday afternoon

so I could soak my feet when we got back to the hotel

that's the kind of trip it was!

although it is always great to get away

getting home on Wed. night and crawling into my own bed

was heaven

that along with snuggles and kisses from my family

bought more berries yesterday 

love ~ love ~ love

shortcake is on the short list for today

trying to get a few things accomplished as my vacation winds down

a week is just not long enough

but I guess it will have to do for now

and I will start a countdown until my next week.

I have not been around to hardly any blogs

but hope to catch up on my reading as there is rain

in our forecast for the week-end

Monday Smiles

I am getting ready to jump in the car

and do my best to assist in the US economy

but had to share a couple of things from the week-end

my peonies exploded

like Boom ~ gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!

on the way to plant at the cemetery on Saturday

I stopped at a roadside stand that was selling

local strawberries!!

I was so excited ~ I almost did the happy dance in front of the guy

tell me these are local

he says "well they are from Nova Scotia"

that's a heck of a lot closer that the ones we get from 

California so I will take them!

so sweet and juicy ~ we all had one right out of the box and went

yuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmm

we spent yesterday at the camp

and I made strawberry rhubarb crumble 

with my newly found berries

nothing better than a bbq on a sunny Sunday

and a cold beer

I tried out this one that my FIL had

and I quite enjoyed it

sorry about the quality of the pics today

they are all from my phone!

after supper we lazed around a bit

then headed for home so I could prep for my trip

sometimes she gets settled in the weirdest places!

Strawberry Shortcake

strawberry season is winding down here

and that my friends ~ makes me sad

I have saved some for the freezer

and we had a great feed of shortcake

made with sweet biscuits

simply the best

not to mention strawberry rhubarb crumble

which I made twice

with french vanilla ice cream

can you say love

I will head out to the market on Friday night

and scoop up some more

as I see jam in my future...

Hope you are having a fabulous week

we are tired ~ late nights up talking

then work all day and doing it all again

there have also been some spectacular light shows

the last 2 nights ~ Trev loves a good thunder and lightening storm

tonight we will head out to the shore

for a feast of seafood

 

I will remember to take my camera

Summer??

We ushered in the first day of summer yesterday

and it was 14 degrees here

that's about 57 F people

it is chilly ~ so when is Mother Nature going to 

turn up the heat a bit so we can enjoy

the beach without a sweatshirt

flip flops without freezing our tootsies

ice tea on a hot day

and heaven forbid ~ an ice cream cone!

I missed my regular scheduled Monday morning post

to tell you the truth

the week-end kicked my butt ~ big time

we never stopped ~ but we had a blast

both of us were feeling a bit under the weather on Sunday

and I only felt like myself again on Tuesday

I am getting old

staying up late and drinking too much

= a tired tired Lori

I took my camera to the BBQ on Friday night

and since I was stationed at the welcome table

it did not make it out of the bag

I did not get one shot over the entire week-end!

I was hoping that some would be posted on line

that I could scoop up and share

but not yet ~ so my friends ~ I have to wait

and so do you!

I am happy to report that the local berries are in the stores

so I scooped some up tonight

and hope to make another crumble tonight

yum!

It's Berry Season

Strawberry season is here...

and it is one of my favorite things about summer

there is nothing like picking them off the vine
so fresh and good

and I always get a milkshake when we go

I think this is my favorite dessert ever
well ~ one of them anyway!

we have 3 birthday's to celebrate

my mother-in-laws is today
sis-in-law tomorrow
and my niece Samantha's is Friday

then we have Canada Day
on Thursday

a fun filled week for sure
hope the sun shines upon you today
