The Wonders of Nature

As I was sitting out on my deck after supper
I heard the honking in the distance
and I knew if I looked up ~ I would see them

you see every night we have flocks of geese
that fly over the house
headed down river to where they roost for the night

seeing them fly in formation is something that brings a smile to my face
each and every time

the honking lets you know that they are coming
you just have to be patient

I counted 5 flocks tonight and just when I thought the show was over
another ground of 20 or so went

they reminded me of a team building note
I had hanging for my team ~ back when I was in a management position

Every formation has a lead bird out front who leads and sets the pace for the others. The first bird has to work the hardest since it flies through undisturbed air. When the lead bird tires, it will move out of the lead position and fall back into one of the lines of the V. Another bird will rapidly move forward to take the lead position to maintain the V formation. The two birds at the end of the V tire more rapidly and rotate frequently with the rest of the flock. This is true teamwork.

Not sure why I felt the need tonight to write about it
it was a simple thing ~ that made me smile

and maybe sharing it with you
will bring a smile to your face as well
as long as you are not petrified of birds!!

Friday Potpourri

Ahhh Friday
I breathe you in ~ right down to my toes

you see it is not just the end of the week
it is the beginning of a week off
vacation ~ and that brings a smile to my face

via

via
since my last vacation was full of plans and go go go
this time is free and clear

there are some things I do want to do
and I am making a little list

via

I would love to throw caution to the wind
and take off for places unknown

but I think I will keep my feet firmly planted on the ground
and stay put

via

a day of antiquing and junking may be on the agenda
as I know there are local spots that I just need to find

via

via

I know I am pulling out this recipe ~ I need to make it!
lemony goodness ~ oh my

via

via
and read ~ oh how I love to read

I finished a book last week-end at the cottage and
started another ~ which I finished yesterday

so maybe I can get 2 more in ~ Lord knows I have enough
in my to read pile!

via

Hope that you have had a great week

that the kiddos are all settled back in school

and your routines are starting to find their niche.

Have a fabulous week-end!

Rockport Tour

when we used to be young and wild
Sunday's were days for relaxing
and a little hair of the dog

these back roads were busy ~ people out for Sunday drives
and going for a "Rockport Tour" was the thing to do

I love these old roads ~ they hold memories
I had not been down this way for at least a couple of years
so with my camera on hand
off I went

this is the Rockport Hall

I think the first time I was here ~ we had held a family reunion in the building
back in the early 80's

in the mid 80's it was a dance hall every Saturday night
it was quite a site to see

bring your cooler ~ sprinkle the dance wax on the floor
and dance the night away

they charged $3.00 for a single or $5.00 a couple
it was a family affair
and I mean the whole family ~ Mom, Dad, Aunts & Uncles,
Cousin's and Grandparents

once our crew got there ~ the party started
and we had a ball.  The music was an eclectic mix to say the least

the DJ was a friend of the family
and played everything from Ricky Skaggs to the Pointer Sisters
remember ~ it was the 80's!!

I stopped the truck and walked the perimeter
and peeked into the windows
and smiled.  I could almost hear the music drifting out the door
along with the sound of laughter and good times

it does the heart good to see the grounds mowed
and the place painted ~ well kept
and still being used.

next stop on my little tour was Slacks Cove
the tide was in so I did not wander down to the beach
but this is one of my favorite places ever

there are so many little places along the road I stopped
and looked out ~ breathed in the salt air

so many camps and cottages peppering the landscape
this is a great place to be

a little stop at the Rockport United Church
founded in 1875

I really love old country churches

driving back to the cottage I had to pull over
get out of the truck and just appreciate the view

it is indeed my little piece of heaven
and it was the perfect day for a tour.

Friday Potpourri

Labour day week-end makes me happy
and sad at the same time

a 3 day week-end is always a blessing in disguise
but also tells us that the end of summer
is here....
unknown
via
for most it's the last real week-end for the beach
so I want to feel the sand between my toes

via

via

via
tomorrow we head to the cottage
it will be a week-end of relaxing
lots of walks on the beach
and reading ~ always reading

via

via
maybe we will have a bonfire or two

via

via
and bbq will be on the menu

via

via
hopefully I will find some wildflowers
to plop in a mason jar

I know for sure ~ rain or shine
I will enjoy my little piece of heaven.

Wishing you all a wonderful long week-end.
