especially since I start vacation at 6:00 PM sharp....

January is such a dreary month

makes you want to curl up under the blankets

eat soup ~ drink tea

and get lost in a good book

in Nova Scotia

I think they are gorgeous

she definitely has an eye for a good shot

I met an old friend for supper last night

we had a great chat over good food

it does not get much better than this

this is on my to make list this week-end

along with a couple of projects

and a lot of relaxing

Cars, Cookies & Memories Made...

Although we have not been to

too many dealerships

test driving cars ~ listening to the "spiel"

being ignored completely by one salesman

hello ~ hello ~ I am IN on this decision

stop pretending I am not here

ok ~ you just fell off my list 

I will never ever ever ever buy a car from you

channelling my inner Taylor Swift there for a minute

so after all that we have

a new car

you really have to say that it your best

Price is Right announcer voice

picking it up in the morning

and I am very happy

Sunday I spent the day with Mom

and my girls

we goofed around and hopefully

made some new memories

I came home and made cookies

and they were so so good

I can't tell you how many I ate

but it was sinful

it really was

lots of change as I also got a new phone

and I have been having fun on Instagram

so happy to keep up with everyone in pictures!

Friday Potpourri

It has been quite a week

I did not realize until last night that I have not sat down long enough

to read any blogs ~ let alone create a post

the first of the week was snuggle weather

cuddle weather

curl up under a blanket and stay there weather

thankfully the wind chill has subsided 

and I am starting to enjoy winter

if that is even possible!

last week-end I made the soup I wrote about here

it was good but I will make some changes next time

next up is this cake

I cannot wait to try it

 we have been car shopping

something I am not very fond of any time of the year

let alone in the cold days of January

I think we have found one though ~ time will tell

this week-end will be spent cleaning

and trying to get the house back in order

Circle of Life

Today is usually a hard day

because you see I miss my Daddy just a little bit more 

than usual 

 

but there are no more tears

only smiles as I flipped through some photo albums

and decided which ones to scan and show

the man that was Dave ~ my Dad

the one of the 2 of us is from my best friend's wedding

back in 1987

all pink and in pearls ~ yes ~ that is moi

 

this is him at his finest ~ it was hard to find one of him

without his tongue stuck out

he was a sassy one!

you know it almost broke my heart this morning

when she wrote on facebook that she lost her best friend

12 years ago today

she has never gotten over his death

and never moved on although we have given her the green light

time and again

she is just not interested....

this is a classic Christmas morning shot

the helmet paraphernalia he has on his head

was for cutting wood ~ protection when using the chain saw

did he ever wear it in the woods ~ I cannot recall

but we had fun with it that morning

a shot of him and Gina ~ she used to call him

her "Elvis"

this was from their 30th wedding anniversary

we threw a surprise party for them

and it was so much fun

this is taken in the old kitchen at the farm

and one of my very favorite shots of him.

I titled this post the circle of life because I know that time marches on

and we are born to die

I do not dwell in the past 

but on 3 days of the year I allow myself to really remember

to look at pictures and listen to sad songs

and think about what if....  what if he was still here

and on those days ~ miss him a little more than usual

On January 6th, 2012 my cousin's daughter had a little girl

and her name is Ava

she turns one today and she is a little angel ~ she really is

so time will continue to march on
and I will carry the memories of my Dad
in my heart forever.

New year ~ fresh start

so far the new year has brought us crisp

I have been loving getting around

reading about everyone's goals

and words for this year

I have some ideas ~ some plans

I need to sit down and get them all recorded

but first I have to get Christmas packed up

and put away!

so that is my plan for the week-end

and I may attempt to make this soup

looks like just the fix for this cold weather.
