Eaton's
I am feeling a bit nostalgic todayyou know I sometimes spend
too much time looking into the past
but this part of my past was
so rewarding and basically where
I grew up
from a sassy teenager
to a competent woman
well...
I like to think I am competent!
When I was 17
I got a part time job at a department store
it was not one that I had spent much time in
but somehow fate placed me here
it was a family run business
and it was called Eaton's

Here I am
all of 18 years old
(1984)I worked in the Bedding & Linen department
then on to draperies
I worked my way from a part timer
to a full time supervisor
that was 1987

I thought I would stay there
until I figured out what I wanted to be
when I grew up
17 years later
I was still there
and was a manager
I made a lot of friends
ones that will last a life time
this is Laurie and Iat a coworkers wedding
she taught me a lot
I looked up to her
in 1999while I was on vacation
I received a call
to come back to work
my vacation was canceled
it was all hands on deck
the company had claimed bankruptcy
and a liquidator was coming in
we knew things were not good
I had said since June
that we were up the creek without a paddle
and the falls were ahead
I just was not sure how far ahead they were...
we closed the doors here
on October 2nd
a very sad day indeed
last year a group of the girls got togetherwe looked at pictures
reminisced
sang and danced
and just had fun
I am so grateful that
I had this time
and met these people
ones that I can always be myself with
we have been to each others weddings
and were there for each other in times of grief
this is a statue of Timothy Eatonthat use to sit at the
Toronto Eaton Centre store
people would rub his left toe
for good luck
it now sits in the
Royal Ontario Museum
Built in 1917, the Neils Hogenson Housewas ordered from the Eaton's Catalogue,
and sent as a kit.
Located in Sterling, Alberta

Days Off
It's a long time
between New Years and Easter
so I usually book a day off
sometime in February
just to take a break
and get a long week-end
Today is that day
It's already 10am
and I have not done a thing yet
except for drink coffee
watch tv
and play on the computer
and
I am still in my jammies
oh ~ yes ~ I ~ am!
Now there are things that I
should be doing
but
I am still thinking....
I could clean the house
yeah ~ ah no...
I could work on my
project of the month
for February
since there is only 1 week left
maybe...
we will see
I know one thing for certain
I am not planning on leaving the house!
Have a great Monday

Spender or Saver?

We were having a discussion the other day at work
about whether or not you save up for a
big ticket item
or
just go out and buy it on credit?
Oh how I wish we did not have to stop
and even think about it
but we do not have that luxury
so we tend to do a little of both
2 years ago we were looking for new furniture
for the rec room
I had seen a sectional that I liked
and they have a deferred payment plan
so we went out and got it
then had a year to pay it off
Love our "That 70's Show" basement??
we bought in October
so for Christmas that year
instead of a present together
we asked the parents for cash
and we called the couch our present
But ~ when we decided to take vacation last fall
it was credit all the way

it was credit all the way
and I am so glad that we did it
although we are still paying for it!
This past Christmas we went out and bought
a new TV and stand
the stand ended up being almost paid for
by money received again this year
plus
we also bought it on deferred
so we will be able to put chunks of money on it
until it is paid for in the fall of this year.
We find this easier than receiving something
we really do not want or need
Sounds a little cold
but the price tag was more than my Mom
or Trev's parents would spend on us normally
so it's like them getting together
to buy us our gift.

Week 4

I am late in posting my week 4 results
because I was disappointed
I was hope to hit the 10 lb mark
but I did not...

I know it IS a loss
but it takes the wind out of your sails
when you think you did so well
then
I had a bad, bad week-end
I did not move at all
unless I can count pushing the cart
around the grocery store
then there was chocolatePMS = chocolate
So we will seewhat Thursday will bring
Thank you for all the support guys
it means the world!
