Sea of Yellow

I am not a HUGE fan of yellow but I have been drawn to it in small doses. Maybe it comes from growing up in the 70's. I remember moving into our new house as a child and everything was yellow or gold. Harvest gold fridge, stove, washer & dryer.. remember those??

Our wallpaper in the kitchen was yellow gingham - big checks. The carpets were also gold along with the fixtures in the bathroom. Ahhh ~ the memories of it all. So it is of no surprise that I tend to veer away from that spectrum of the color wheel altogether.

I do have some yellow in my house now but it is more muted ~ a soft butter yellow in the kitchen which was actually called castle cream on the paint chip.

When we do sell here and build our new place, we will be decorating our rec room in a fire theme for my resident fireman and would love to put a gold on the walls, we will have to see.

One place I do not mind a touch of yellow to cheer things up is in my flowers. Driving home last week-end I had to pull over when I saw this:

I love it when He sends us things like this to make us smile.

Roadside Treasures

The beauty of nature really popped out at me on one of my many excursions this past week-end ~

Of course my love for wildflowers is apparent and I loved what I found ~

This little blue flag was peeking out at me ~

I am not a huge daisy fan ~ but seeing them along the road like this was beautiful ~

And Queen Anne's Lace usually does not slap me in the face like this did ~ stepping out of the car you could smell it ~

Happy Wednesday

The Butter Dish

I love anything old ~ especially if it has been handed down to me from a relative. Although I thought Mom had given me any and all kitchen treasures that came from her grandparents ~ apparently she was holding out on me. This old butter dish belonged to her grandmother and she has now passed it along to me. I washed it up and gave it a new home. I think it looks great with some of my other treasures ~

Rain, Rain Go Away....

Well ~ we are back from our week-end which was a bit of a bust. One of our main objectives was to open the cottage, clean, mow and then relax. When we finally got there on Friday - long story as I live with a "Poky Man"... anyhoo ~ I started inside and hubby went out to the shed to get the lawn mower out. Now this is the 1st time we have been there this year, so you can imagine how the lawn looks:

Mind you ~ this was taken through the screen during one of the downpours we had! So the lawnmower comes out of the shed and he goes to gas it up and there is no blade ~ NO BLADE ~ where IS the blade?? Oh - I took it off in the fall and took it home to sharpen it. AHHHH Not a problem ~ tomorrow we will go to Sackville, next closest town and buy a new blade and we will mow when we get home....

So off we go on Saturday ~ find a blade, buy a blade, come back with it and it is too big! Needless to say ~ the lawn still looks like the picture above although it is beat down a bit which will make it harder to mow when that time comes. We may need a baler too..... Good news is that I did relax ~ went for some walks and drives checking out my new camera ~ pictures to come soon. Oh ~ and look what the boys did for me on Saturday night:

Yes ~ they did the dishes and I sat back and relaxed.

Off We Go.....

I cannot believe that it is July 3rd already ~ where on earth did the spring go?? I know ~ it rained and rained and rained! Because of all the rain, we have yet to open our cottage ~ so today we are off to do that. Today is a double edged sword ~ you see we have to clean first before we can enjoy ~ Yikes!

So today I will be scrubbing and dusting and making beds. We will also have to mow which is one of my favorite things to do.... really ~ I would rather be outside mowing the lawn instead of inside scrubbing a toilet!

Once it is mowed and it looks like this:

I hope to do a little of this:

And then if the weather holds out for the week-end ~ maybe we can roast the marshmallows I bought yesterday:

We'll have to work on a new fire pit for sure! And the best thing is ~ I bought a new camera yesterday ~ so I can't wait to try her out! I need a name for her though as I love when mimi over at mimi charmante goes out with her Frances. Maybe I will ponder that over the week-end.

Happy Day!

Red & White

The rain held off so we ventured over to the park to celebrate and people watch. We ran into quite a few friends and some family too. I took some random shots and we saw:

A giant Canada flag was hung from the quint ~

The band played on ~

Snacked on some BBQ'd burgers ~

There were lots of activities there for the kids ~

There was also an appearance by the Canadian wonder dog ~ Molly ~

Then when it got dark, we walked down to the river and watched the fireworks display ~ simply beautiful. Cooper felt left out, so he posed for this shot just for you ~

I hope all my fellow Canuks had a great Canada Day and I wish my American friends a fun & festive July 4th!
