Master Bedroom ~ Final Reveal

Well it only took over a year
to complete the room
and I am cheating when I say it is complete
because it's not done done
not Lori done
but it is done enough to have my little reveal!

Everything started way back in November of 2010
when I found a quilt I loved

that was my springboard
and I took off running from there!

So a little background
we have been in the house 10 years this month

the bedroom was painted the day we took possession
the day before the movers arrived with the furniture

it was priority because we had a waterbed back then
so once it goes in it stays in ~ it was something you would have to paint around
is anybody with me here??

been there ~ done that??

so I digressed there ~ nothing else was done with the room
it kinda looked like a dorm room
with a king size bed

so I previously posted about it here and here

here is the before:

and here it is today

isn't it amazing what a little paint and planning can do to a space!

the headboard went from this...

to this

inexpensive frames became works of art when I chose
4 shots of our New York City trip
enlarged them to 5x7 and had them printed in sepia
and framed them

I love this wall!

we found our flooring in August of last year
and I stained the baseboards last fall

then Trev installed them on Easter week-end which I wrote about here

I love the new floor and the area rug
talk about a steal of a deal

I was looking for an 8x10 and my friends they are
expensioso ~ but on our 4th stop we stumbled across
this one ~ just a plain Jane ~ match our walls
shut up! for $40.00
yup ~ I know ~ it was marked as damaged
so we brought it home ~ rolled it out and could not find a thing
wrong with it ~ then we did the happy dance on it!

We replaced the hunter green venetian blind
with a faux wood shutter type blind and I love it

everything is coming together
(insert smile here)

i am still looking for a vintage piece for here
I will have to start looking around
as the season to flea is starting here soon

I am also looking at another tv
a little flat screen and I can get rid of this boat anchor!

And just in case you noticed the 1980's flying saucer in the room
I have not yet found a new ceiling fan

she might be ugly but let me tell you it's like being under
a helicopter and in the summer when you do not any any A/C
ugly does not matter!

and I thought I might try to paint or stain the closet doors
would you go the same color as the walls or
dark like the new flooring??

would love to have some opinions....

so there you have it ~ my almost done master bedroom

I like it ~ I like it a lot!

Hope the week-end has been kind
mine has been a lazy one ~ did a few things but only
things that I had to do

with that being said ~ I forgot to water the plants
ta ta for now!

Master Bedroom ~ Part 2

Hello there!

Is everyone enjoying their week-end?

Ours started off with a snowstorm on Friday
but luckily it only started late afternoon
so I got to have a lazy morning
then out to run my errands
and cozied up on the couch for the night

Trev spent most of Saturday shoveling
while I painted the bedroom

this is a shot of our next door neighbor
so you can see how truly crazy
the winter has been!

Cathy stands about 5'-6"
so that will give you an idea on how high the snowbanks are
around here...
and we still have the month of March
honestly I do not know where we will put any more!

So today I will do a bit of a reveal
because it is not totally done
curtains are not yet made
my photo project is not complete
and we still need to get a new light fixture
then the flooring will be done in the spring....

So this is the before picture:

and here is how it looks today:

the headboard turned out really well
as it went from this

to this

the wall color is a rich mocha
although the pictures really do not show
how nice it really is

I am really pleased on how it turned out
and I am a little excited

thus the reveal before it is totally finished.

I have veggies roasting in the oven
and the popcorn is ready for tonight

I cannot wait to watch the red carpet show
for the Oscars.

Enjoy your Sunday
and I will see you this week.

Master Bedroom ~ Part 1

How was your week-end?

mine was great ~ after cleaning up from the
weather bomb that hit us on Friday
it was smooth sailing
albeit bone chilling cold
the rest of the week-end

Our game night was fun ~ which we always have fun
and
I ended up making
baked nacho dip ~ yummy yummy
to go along with our board game
and our beverages

Sunday I played around with my headboard project

this is what it looks like now

a la Trading Spaces
plywood, quilt batting and staples

I did not tuft this one as the fabric was too busy
but the new fabric I got has no pattern so I think it needs
a little kick

I looked around on the web to find the best way to affix my buttons
and there are many tutorials out there

but
since it is wood it seemed like an awful lot of trouble
to drill holes ~ affix something to the back
and then sew the buttons on insuring they are tight enough
to give the desired effect
I came up with an alternative option

I bought these last week-end on our Saturday excursion
and thought why can I not just
measure and nail these into the wood

 ta da

and since I am using these buttons
after they are covered with the same fabric
I can just use my trusty glue gun
to glue them over the nail

I cannot wait to try it ~ but first I need to paint!
and speaking of paint
I thought I knew which one I wanted
so I got the little sample pot

it's called Stony Creek
and I am not sure if it is too green and a bit too dark
then I asked Trev what he thought

we agreed that the butterscotch color was off the table
it's the one marked "out"

2 of them were too light ~ especially after I
held the curtain fabric up to the swatches
so that leaves us with the dark one
and the top one which is a happy medium
so back to the store I go
to see if I can find the little sample pot in the top color
once we get them both on the wall
I think we can make a decision.

I am very excited about this project
because in April we will have been in this house for 9 years
and the only thing that we have done with our bedroom
is paint it the day before the furniture was moved in

we have some very dated pieces in it
and I promise to take before and after pics
of the entire room.

Wishing you a marvelous Monday!

Looking Ahead...

Yes ~ it's me ~ the same person that was snottin' and bawlin' last week-end about not being sure about putting the house on the market. After our talk and decision to just "do it" ~ hey are we Nike people now, I think not! Anywhooo ~ I am looking ahead ~ new house means new stuff...right??

One thing I have been wanting to do for the last year or so is to re-do our bedroom. I so desperately want a new duvet cover and curtains ~ I want it to be all comfy. So now I am thinking ~ I will have a blank canvas to work with and the colors I am gravitating towards are chocolate brown and blue.

I found these ~

something to think about.... and I think I now need chocolate as I am having a craving.

Happy week-end!
