Cups, Saucers and an Anniversary

So last night I hauled out a little box from the basement

one that had about a dozen little china cups

with saucers to match

am I having a tea party??

no ~ but this week-end there will be one

as part of a week-end long anniversary celebration.

The Riverview Fire Department is celebrating their

50th anniversary

as some of you know ~ Trevor ~ aka hubby

joined the department as a volunteer firefighter 

back in 2003

through the department we have met so many people

good people and have made some great friends

on Sunday night we went to a meeting

as they were looking for people to help out

over the week-end.

lots to do as you well well imagine with a BBQ on

Friday night for past and present members

an open house at the station on Saturday

with a pancake breakfast

a ladies tea for the spouses

and then a banquet and dance Saturday night

for all to kick back ~ have a few

and dance the night away.

So along with manning the welcome table on Friday night

I offered to supply some cups and saucers for the tea

it was suggested not to take any that I would be crushed

if something happened to them

this one is my absolute favorite

so it went back in the box!

I love that it has an "S" on the bottom from when

my grandmother used to take hers to bridge games

and church functions

so I chose a few along with this little cream & sugar set

my little collection came from my grandmothers

on both sides

and to see them makes me smile

and I remember heaping spoonfuls of sugar

in my tea ~ with milk please

I shudder at the thought of sugar now

but I will take a bit of honey now and then

so my man will be all decked out in his dress uniform 

on Saturday night

and I hope to have some shots of the week-end

to share with you on Monday.

A Perfect Little Side Table!

Hey there

how was your week-end??

We actually had 2 days with

wait for it....

NO rain!!

Yeah ~ I was surprised too considering they were predicting it

for Sunday ~ but nada ~ and for that my friends

I am thankful!

Friday night after work I went to the market

then I went and bought a patio set

everything matches!

it is a set!

I think I am a grown up now as we have graduated

from all the mismatched and hand me down lawn furniture

that has adorned our various decks throughout the past 12 years

we have been together

I did not buy one with a big honking table

because realistically ~ it is just the 2 of us

most of the time

and a ginormous table would take up the entire deck

plus Miss Molly's rope would get wrapped up in it

constantly!

I think she looks purty and I bought the umbrella too as we

get the afternoon sun and in the summertime there are

days where you really cannot sit out there.

So after we got it all set up 

I said ~ we need something where the other 2 chairs

are sitting

I ran in and pulled out my project binder and found something I

had seen and saved last year

it was a little side table made from terra cotta pots

easy right!

 so Saturday I was off to the garden center and 

after securing it with a nut, 2 washers and a bolt

voila!

I think it's cute and looks perfect

between my 2 chairs.

So after weeding and weeding

and planting some more perrenials

we threw a chicken on the bbq

have you ever had beer can chicken??

it is to die for ~ a fav in our house for sure

the little holder costs about $5.00 at Wal-Mart

and I try to cook it this way about twice a month

when the weather is nice.

So after nursing a sore back Sat. night 

we kicked back and watched a movie

then Sunday was a day to do little things

and I actually took some time with my book 

on the deck.

I am reading Water for Elephants right now

and I am really enjoying it

I bought this one today

the cover intrigued me and I cannot wait to start it

I also made this on Sunday

So I will leave you with one last look at my

perfect little side table

using 2 ~ 12 inch pots

1 ~ 12" saucer

1 nut ~ 2 washers and 1 bolt

you can also paint them and do fancy smansy things in

the saucer ~ but I like it au naturel!

Friday Potpourri

Doing the Friday happy dance once again

and there is sunshine in the forecast

this week has been hectic

I was still feeling crappy

and work has been crazy

so plans for the week-end include

getting some things done

eating outside

time in the flowerbeds

the farmer's market

an ice cream cone

and some reading

even though Molly is no longer crated

I love this idea!

Week-end Pretties

This week-end was a mixed bag

it was overcast and cool on Saturday

then warmed up a bit and the sun came out on Sunday

still not feeling 100%

but wanting to come back to the land of the living

I ventured outside on Saturday

and took a wire brush to the window I brought back

from the cottage last year

she is now is the garage drying out a bit

and I hope to clean it up so I can hang it in the living room

I am in the midst of choosing photos

to display as I want the panes to act as frames

going between shots taken down at the cottage/farm

and florals

I will post it when I am finished.

So then I wandered around the yard

my lilac is in bloom

my cosmos ~ still just tiny

have some buds on them and one bloom

 

one good thing about all the rain

is that the flowers love it

and the weeds ~ no ~ still no weeding this week!

Wanting a big bouquet of lilacs for the house

but not wanting to strip my little ole bush

I went for a little drive and found this enormous bush

off by itself and picked a bunch

these now adorn my dining room table

plus a couple of little sprigs

around the kitchen

Sunday ~ feeling a bit better

got some errands run ~ took Molly to the dog park

spent some quality time with my neice

and made a big batch of spaghetti sauce

I also signed up for Pinterest

I have been having fun playing around with it

not that I think my life is that interesting
