Just Dessert

I love trying new recipes
and then sometimes I just stick with the old standbys...
You know especially when you are taking something somewhere,
you want it to look special ~ pretty
and for it to taste really good.
A couple of ones that I choose over and over again are trifles.
Not your standard English trifle as really I am not a huge fan....
(Sorry to you English ladies out there!)

For the summer I find you want something light, not heavy,
especially after pigging out on BBQ and all those creamy mayo based salads.

I got the recipe for Berry Trifle a few years ago
and it is a hit every time I make it!

I usually have a big bowl I make it in when we go to family gatherings
and such, but last time I made it was for a brunch,
so I did individual ones using martini glasses.

This is basically angel food cake, yogurt, berries and cool whip.

They were as yummy as they look!

That same week-end we wext next door for a BBQ and again,
I wanted to take something special.
Well this one knocked their socks off!
It is Skor Bar Trifle and it was delish...

You cube up brownies, drizzle with coffee liqueur if you wish,
then layer with chocolate pudding, cool whip, skor bar pieces and repeat.
I used the little 2 bite brownies and quartered them,
but if you are more domesticated than me,
you can make a pan and cube them up that way.

Let me tell you ~ the 4 of us cleaned this up and almost licked out the dish!

What is your standby dessert??

Farmgirl Paints Giveaway

Becky over at Farmgirl Paints is having a giveaway for her 200th post. If you have never been over there, you must go...run.... as she is Fab-U-Lous!

Good luck with the giveaway ~ but I am going to win!

Hunted, Found & Sold!

Well ~ I am back....

The item I was looking for on our flea market quest yesterday
was found within the first hour ~
I would have been happy to have jumped in the car and headed back home
for blender drinks, but no ~
7 hours later.....

Let me set the scene:

Rally the troops into the car and drive for about an hour or so
to the town of Sussex, NB.
Stop at the local bakery for brown bread and cheese English muffins ~
so far so good......

This flea market that boasts to be the biggest outdoor sale in Canada
covers a HUGE area ~
I would not even venture to guess how big Princess Louise Park is.....

This booth had quite a few treasures ~ not so much trash

Now ~
Mother Nature MUST have a sense or humour,
because after all the rain she provided us in May, June & July ~
we have had a hot spell here.
I do not mind the heat but the humidity sucks the life right out of me.
So the temperature with the humidity here yesterday was in the high 90's.

Loved this old Harley!

So ~ can you even imagine how many man boobs & beer belly's
I saw yesterday?? Too many to count!

This guy had some beautiful furniture pieces

I was psyched though....
Somehow I knew I would find it....

Yeah for me! Actually Trev spotted it first and the price was right too.
Love it when I can haggle a bargain!

Kim ~ I saw this and thought of you...

I also picked up some glass pieces thinking they would make cute vases.
Well ~ one IS a vase, but I thought it was really cute:

The Crown mason jar is so nice and big ~ I love the glass top and how the
Made in Canada is big as life on the back of it.
I know exactly where it is going and what I am putting in it.

So after traveling around for 4 1/2 hours I radioed Trev....
I have found a chair....
under a tree....
which means shade....
I have my sneakers off....
wishing my flip flops were in my bag and not the car....
and he is not answering me!
He does not even have his radio on ~ good thing we brought them!
Gotta love him!

Old chairs all lines up in the sun

So once he answered his cell phone, luckily he had kept that ON
we met up, had a bite and I went back to the car.
I had enough and my lawn chair and book were
calling me ~ I am not a novice ~ I HAVE done this before!
Plus ~ I am reading Lisa Jackson....
Have you read her? If you like mysteries she is GOOD!

This is the sequel to Left to Die ~ a good read
and I was glad to have a good read since Trev decided to join me
back at the car almost 2 hours after I left him.

All in all it was a great day and I am happy with what I found.
I did see a couple of larger pieces I would have loved to have bought
but with the house on the market, I was trying to keep things small this time around.

So ~ this is my booty
All for under $20.00
Some of the bakery goods snuck into the shot too!

Treasure Hunting

This week-end is our area's annual giant flea market.
It advertises itself as being the
largest outdoor flea market in Canada ~
all I know is that it takes all day to go through it.

It sure is not Farm Chicks or Barn House ~
there will be no cute outfits or name tags ~
it will be comfortable shoes
and by the sounds of the forecast lots of water
as the humidity is suppose to
S*P*I*K*E....

In past years there has been just as many junk tables
as there were treasures.

And I really mean junk ~
it is amazing what people will try to sell for a dollar!

I am going there with a purpose ~
I am looking for something from the past ~
of course!
I found one on eBay ~ but I am not willing to spend that much of my hard earned money on it!
It is just a can, but seeing it takes me back to my childhood ~
playing in the kitchen chamber at the farm.

And before you ask ~
I already looked last time I was there to see if there was
still one kicking around.

Mind you I did not scour every corner ~
but I am pretty sure they were all tossed.

I am taking my camera ~
so I plan to bring home more pictures than treasures.
But you never know what I might find...
as I now have a new eye for all my old stuff.

Did I tell you that I like
that it is called "vintage" now and not "antique"
does not sound nearly as stuffy....

What are your week-end plans?

Tag Your It!

I have been tagged by Maggie over at The White Farmhouse to do the following:

1. Open the 4th file where I store my photos
2. Pick out the 4th photo & publish it to my blog
3. Explain a bit about it
4. Pass this challenge to 4 other blogs.

As luck would have it ~ my 4th file was a group of shots I took a couple
of week-ends ago down at the farm.
These of course are raspberries and I ate these ones after I took their picture!
There is almost something evil in that ~ isn't there??

I choose to tag these lovely ladies:

Simone
Alicia
Jacqueline
& last but certainly not least
Becky

Live Simply

This week-end has been an odd one of sorts ~
seems what I planned to do yesterday I did today
and vice versa.
Not sure why, but it has thrown me for a little bit of a loop
along with having a mild case of the toomanyshooters flu today
all is now good with the world.

This afternoon I picked up my Mom and
we headed out to a local craft fair.

Although it is still quite small ~
it has grown over the years and
I always enjoy going and poking around to see what is new.

There was A LOT of jewelry this year ~
not that I am not a fan,
I love it,
but when every 2nd booth is jewelry ~
OK I may be exaggerating just a tad...
well a girl yearns for some wood or candles or something!!

First thing I saw at the front gate was
NO Camera's
ACK!
I so wanted to take some really cool shots
but alas ~ that was not to happen.

Mom bought way more than I did ~ which is good.
Every time I stopped to look at something I heard
Do you like that? Do you want that?
That is NOT the reason I asked you if you wanted to come!
She finally got the message and again ~ all was well.

She bought some "Mom" things
~ she gravitates towards pastel colors and I cringe....
But I did talk her into some nice placemats to match the chair pads
I bought her a couple of years ago for Christmas.

I bought fudge
~ a must to bring home for hubby at every craft show I enter the door of
and I also bought this:

Isn't it sweet?

This has been a dear friends mantra this year and
when I saw it I thought of her.
Since she inspires me nearly every day, I bought it with her in mind.

Thank you Kim for your inspiration.
Who or what inspires you?

Cosmo Love

I am a lover of most flowers
~ one however that tugs at my heartstrings is the Cosmo.

You see growing up and spending week-ends on my grandparents farm
~ there are certain things that you take for granted
~ things that you thought would always be there
~ like Grammy's wonderful flowerbeds.

When Grammy went into the nursing home
my Aunt took over the love and passion of planting the flowerbeds
as Grammy had for years

This is how it looked in it's "heyday"
and this is how Aunt Dot lovingly planted it
each year from seeds from last years flowers of course!

all these photos were taken by my cousin who is a brilliant photographer in her own right.

Although there are still plenty of perennials planted on the farm
I will miss the simple beauty of the Cosmo
as to me it represents when all was well
and people were carefree and loving
and there were no hard feelings
and no one was fighting over who got what
there was a true sense of family
and LOVE.....
Isn't that all that matters?
